This is Calixto Oviedo’s first album as a leader entitled "Calixto’s Way" considered by most as the creator of theNew Cuban sound "Timba", Calixto Oviedo is one of the most mportant representatives in the drumming world of Latin Jazz, together with Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez. Calixto Oviedo during his twenty-three year career in the professional world of music has had the good fortune to work With Internationally famous musicians like Luis Conte, Ray Barreto and JosË-Luis "Changuito Quintana. His most recent project "Calixto’s Way" probably represents best the enormous talent of this artist, defined By Peter Suwalski (cover note) as the L’Elvin Jones of Cuba, Endorser for Meinl, Calixto in collaboration with his friends Mena & the producer of this journey into the world of Cuban music Mike Generale . is inspired by his wife Lily, also present on two tracks as vocalist. A true summary of Cuban Music with the percussion played most of the time by the same Calixto, a valuable accompaniment on the piano by the Italian pianist Enrico Caruso, on all tracks, and an unforgettable trumpet played by Mena… it seems to transport you for a moment, right in the middle of a South American Party.
